Description
Many computer music composers and producers use MIDI extensively. Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) products often include built-in MIDI processing features, but they can be hard to find and difficult to use. The configuration of all the various MIDI settings and routings can often be complex and confusing, especially when multiple MIDI devices and plugins are in use. There are a lot of third-party MIDI processors, arpeggiators and sequencers available, but they can be expensive, complicated and unintuitive. You need help wrangling your MIDI data streams, consolidating your virtual computer music studio, and getting back to making music. You need Medleyan™. Medleyan™ is a software product that provides a collection of built-in MIDI data processors, which are called ‘Tools’. One or more of the included Tools are hosted in a resizable virtual container called the ‘Rack’, and can be arranged in any order. Incoming MIDI data stream is passed into each Tool in the Rack sequentially from left to right. The output of each Tool feeds the input of the next Tool in the Rack, and so on until the accumulated MIDI output is passed back to the DAW or otherwise sent to the intended destination. The following Tools are currently included in Medleyan™: · Keyboard (Generator) - Displays a vertically-oriented piano keyboard that mimics a physical MIDI keyboard. The on-screen keys can be clicked to generate corresponding MIDI note events. The on-screen keys also display the incoming MIDI events, showing the keys that are being played. Supports multi-touch. · Monitor (Observer) - Displays MIDI event messages in a scrolling list. · Notes Analyst (Observer) - Displays information about currently active (playing) MIDI notes. For each note that is playing, the MIDI Key Number (#), Note Name and Octave Number are shown. Up to 8 notes can be displayed at once. · Chords Analyst (Observer) - Based on the currently active (playing) MIDI notes, potential chord Formulas and Chord names are displayed. Up to 8 notes can be displayed at once. · Slider (Generator) - Generates MIDI Continuous Controller (CC) data when the vertical slider is moved. · Staff Analyst (Observer) - Displays up to 8 active notes on a musical staff, which covers the full MIDI note range. · Note Counter (Observer) - As MIDI note (on) messages are passed through this Tool, counters for up to 8 individual Note values are incremented. They are displayed in descending order by Count. · Step Seq (Generator) - Creates Note On / Note Off messages for up to 8 notes, based on the settings of its controls and the current position and state of the Transport in the Header section (see Docs - User Interface). · Keyboard Wide (Generator) - Displays a vertically-oriented piano keyboard that mimics a physical MIDI keyboard. The on-screen keys can be clicked to generate corresponding MIDI note events. The on-screen keys also display the incoming MIDI events, showing the keys that are being played. Supports multi-touch. · Channel Mapper (Modifier) - Allows you to change the MIDI channel of incoming messages to any other channel, on a channel-by-channel basis. · Event Filter (Modifier) - MIDI events are either blocked or passed through this Tool, based on the settings of the various filter controls. · Harmonizer (Generator) - Generates up to 5 notes for each incoming note received, based on the settings of each Note # row. · Notes Transposer (Modifier) - Changes the MIDI note number values of incoming notes by the specified values. Incoming notes that fall outside the Note Min - Note Max range are not modified. · Velocity Scaler (Modifier) - Changes the MIDI note velocity values of incoming notes by applying factor and offset values to the original velocity.
