Description
Learn all about the vowel digraphs "oo", "ou", and "oi", plus three codes that can spell the sound represented by the letters "oo" in the words “book” and “good.” Each letter team is introduced individually in a fun video followed by the opportunity to read and write words with that team. Then children choose the letter team that can represent each isolated sound followed by selecting the team that can spell the missing sound in words, which develops both reading and spelling skills. We have 18 vowel sounds but only five vowel letters plus the letter "y". Most vowel sounds can be spelled in multiple ways including by vowel teams (digraphs). Reading failure (dyslexia) occurs when children are not able to figure out this complicated system that even most adults don’t fully understand. Children don’t need to struggle and fail. The Sounds Have Letter Teams apps make this complicated system very clear, easy, and quick to learn! Why these teams next We include this set of vowel teams as the second set in this program because it gives children more time to practice seeing two vowels next to each other as a team that represents a single sound. The third group of vowel teams includes the split vowel-e teams in which the e is separated from the first vowel by a consonant, like in "make", "like", and "home". Most of the remaining teams are vowel-w or vowel-r teams, which will be taught after the split vowel-e teams. Also, we shouldn’t delay teaching the vowel teams in this app, because they appear frequently in books children read. In one list of 300 common words in children’s books, while the letter o appears 10 times as the sound /o/ (on, not), it also appears 10 times in the team ou as the sound /ou/ (out, found), and 8 times in the team oo—4 as /oo/ (too, soon) and 4 as /oo/ (look, good).
