Tim Bourret served the Clemson Athletic Sports Information Office for 40 academic years before his retirement on July 13, 2018. In June of 2017, Bourret was inducted into the Sports Information Hall of Fame. He became the third Clemson sports information director so honored, joining Joe Sherman and Bradley. On June 10, 2019, Bourret was honored at the annual CoSIDA convention in Orlando, Fla. with a Lifetime Achievement Award. In 2009, the Clemson Sports Information Office was named to the first Football Writers Association "Super 11" Team. The award recognizes the top 11 SID offices in the nation for their service in working with media covering college football. Born Dec. 6, 1955, Bourret edited over 100 award-winning brochures in his career at Clemson, including 37 that dealt with Tiger football. Bourret was a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference 50-Year Anniversary Committee in 2002 and is also the regional chairman of the College Football Hall of Fame voting process. In 2019 he served on ESPN’s Committee that selected the top teams, All-Americans, coaches and games in the first 150 years of college football. He has been the color voice of Clemson basketball since the 1980-81 season and served in the same capacity for Clemson football between 1982 and 1988. His 39 years of broadcasting Clemson basketball make him the dean of color commentators in any sport in the Atlantic Coast Conference. He was also the play-by-play voice of Tiger postseason baseball (1980-89). Bourret broadcast his 1,000th Clemson basketball game on Feb. 10, 2015 when the Tigers played host to Notre Dame, Bourret's alma mater. He was honored in 2003 when he was asked by the Phillips' family to provide the play-by-play duties of the Clemson-Middle Tennessee game, the first game after Jim Phillips' death. Overall, Phillips and Bourret broadcast over 600 Clemson athletic events. The native of West Hartford, Conn. and 1973 graduate of Northwest Catholic High School, followed in his late father's footsteps by attending the University of Notre Dame. Bourret earned his undergraduate degree in business administration in 1977 and earned his master's degree in communication arts from Notre Dame in August of 1978. He joined former Notre Dame basketball Coach Digger Phelps and Sport's Illustrated's John Walters as co-authors of the book "Basketball for Dummies." It was originally released by IDG Books in 1997. A second version of the book was released in 2000 and a third version was published in September of 2011. He is also the author of Digger Phelps' Tales from the Notre Dame Hardwood, a book that was released in September, 2004 and republished in 2015. He also authored the book, "Father Ted Hesburgh//He Coached Me" a book of reflections by Phelps on the former Notre Dame president. That work was published in 2017. In October of 2008, Bourret authored "The Vault - Clemson Football," a history of Clemson football that was published by Whitman Publishing of Atlanta, GA. An updated version of the publication was published in the summer of 2018. The same company also published "Clemson University--2016 National Champions" his book on Clemson's 2016 National Championship season. He authored a book on the 2018 season is also in the works by the same company. In Retirement, Bourret continues to provide color commentary on Clemson football and men’s basketball games. He continues to serve the department in various part time roles, including serving as Chairman of the Clemson Ring of Honor Committee, and as men’s golf media relations director, a role he provided for the last 40 years.
