Description
About the App Describe it To Me is a fun, multi-level game, created to help improve the receptive and expressive language skills in children and adults. Based on research and designed by a certified speech-language pathologist, Describe it To Me employs a game show atmosphere to engage children in their learning while incorporating a variety of questions designed to help clients build a deeper understanding of everyday items. Designed to facilitate a deep semantic understanding, each picture stimulus has six (6) questions designed to probe and teach a deeper level understanding of these everyday items. In addition to teaching semantic knowledge to children, Describe it To Me can be used to facilitate rebuilding semantic knowledge in adults. Research has indicated a deeper semantic knowledge may help with recalling lexical representations. Perfect for all levels from beginning categorization skills to deeper level language skills, Describe it To me is sure to be a great app for the busy speech-language pathologist, teacher, parent, or caregiver. When playing Describe it To Me, a spinner shows the active player. A tap of a button can change between target categories (category, function, parts, location, visuals, extras), while a swipe of a finger selects between receptive or expressive language. The facilitator controls turn taking and category selection. When done with the session, a simple tap on the done button brings the user to the reports center. From the report center, a tap on the avatar of the client brings up the choice of report cards or awards and points. The awards and points center is a great way to help clients see the scores and any awards they have won throughout the game. Report cards are kept for each session and available to track progress monitoring over time. Also available in the Report Section is the homework selection. Describe it To Me includes several worksheets of various skill levels that are easily printed or emailed. Describe it To Me has a settings button on the select player screen. Within the settings area, the facilitator is able to decide what action occurs with a wrong selection, turn on/off the visual display and auditory reinforcement, turn on/off point display, and turn on/off the spinner use. In addition, the facilitator can select the “customize word list” to select/deselect item choices. Describe it To Me has the following: •Over 160 high-quality pictures •Customizable •Multi-user •Homework •Receptive and expressive Language skills •Data Collection over time for each student •Compatibility with Therapy Report Center for easy report writing and progress monitoring Author: Susan Rose Simms, MA, CCC-SLP
